After more than a week of candidate campaigning for the 2025-2026 Student Government Association, the winners have been announced.
Hailey Chen won the race for Vice President of Armstrong and Liberty Affairs against her opponent, Trizariah Freeman.
The electronic ballot for the election was sent out to students’ Georgia Southern emails, and allowed them to cast their votes for two days.
Several positions were available for students to run for, including President, and various Vice President positions for different departments.
Prior to the election results announcement, I spoke to Freeman about her motivation for running for VP of Armstrong and Liberty Affairs. Some of her main concerns were the social opportunities and other needs for Armstrong students.
“So, that’s been one of the major issues, not really looking at what the students want versus what is needed by the students, and it’s just terrible,” said Trizariah Freeman.
“So I want to have, like, a conference, on the school grounds in the Ogeechee Theatre at least once a month. I know students have a lot of things on their minds, like a schedule and everything. Um, and we’re all ,like, even. I will invite the staff as well to hear the students’ opinions and thoughts and concerns, so we all can talk about them together as a group, as a community, as a college,” said Freeman.
“Um, and the second one really was social life on campus. That needs big help, I realize. You know, it’s, like, not too many find this college really amusing, but um I really would love for a game day bus to come down here every second game of ,like, any sport of their choosing and take us Armstrong kids up to Statesboro and go back and forth twice on that same day,” said Freeman.
Freeman also said that The Galley’s prices being too high has been a concern of students. She hopes to make their meals 15% off at least three times a month if she is elected.
“And one thing about me, like, when someone gets a concern, and I get that solution to that concern, I get very passionate and ambitious about it and just so fired up to the point where I just want to help that person out, get that solution done so that they could be happy and passionate around their lives with their heads up high and ready to graduate from school,” said Freeman.
