Georgia Southern University’s Military and Veteran Student Center will host the university’s second annual Veterans Day ceremony at Sweetheart Circle on Friday morning.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and feature a performance by the GS Symphonic Wind Ensemble and speeches by Maj. Jeremy Horstman and Staff Sgt. (Ret.) John Kitchens.

Additionally, Director of Military Affairs Justin Williams said that Sweetheart Circle will be decorated with American flags honoring the veteran on Georgia Southern’s campus as part of the ceremony.

13 members of the Student Veterans Association will participate in a 36-mile march known as the “Ruck to Remember” to the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery after the ceremony.

After completing the march, these 13 members, along with members of the Glennville Boy Scouts, will place flags on the graves of fallen soldiers.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move from Sweetheart Circle to the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
