2017 Homecoming Week arrives at GS

Beginning on October 9, 2017, students will be able to participate in a plethora of events and contests each day in order to celebrate Homecoming Week.

The theme for the 2017 Homecoming events is ‘Totally 90’s!’ According to the Georgia Southern University Event’s page, students could chose to participate in different events on Monday Oct. 9, 2017:

Banner competition – Students will create a themed banner and will compete against other students to see who has the best banner.

Paint the Campus Blue – students will paint theme related images on the selected doors and windows all around campus.

Royalty Candidate Voting – Students will be voting for their 2017 Georgia Southern University’s king and queen, as well as the duke and duchess. Voting will take place through MyInvolvement in the MyGeorgiaSouthern.edu page.

Biggest Fan on Campus Tailgate – Between the times of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. student organizations will set up tailgates at the Russell Union Rotunda and will compete in games and enjoy music!

True Blue BBQ – Student organizations will set up at the Russell Union Rotunda and will compete to see who can make the best bbq on campus.

Penny Wars – Students will be raising money in support of the programs of the Greek Life organizations at Georgia Southern University. The money will be collected at 11 a.m. each day at the Russell Union Rotunda.

T-Shirt Swap – For a small $2 fee, students can exchange non-Georgia Southern collegiate apparel or any other non-Georgia Southern T-shirt for a new Georgia Southern University Homecoming T-shirt.

GSU Idol – Students will be competing in a singing competition, at the Russell Union Ballroom, to see who has the best voice on campus. Tickets will be $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

Throughout the remainder of the week, students will also be able to participate and attend a comedy show, a sidewalk chalk competition, the ‘Doo-Dah Dance and Step Show,’ Food Bank collections, a lip singing competition, the Homecoming parade and the Homecoming game on Oct.14, 2017 against New Mexico State.
