As the storm passes and many Statesboro residents remain without power, here is an update on the state of Georgia Southern athletics.

Men’s soccer triumphs

The last three matches have been positive for the Eagles, with a win over North Florida, an overtime loss against No. 5 Clemson, and a 1-0 victory Friday against Houston Baptist.

Senior forward Blake Wilson netted the game’s only goal as the team improved to 2-3 on the young season.

Wilson’s goal came in the 55th minute of the contest, and he was assisted by junior midfielder Javier Carbonell.

Both the men’s and women’s soccer team have home matches this weekend against Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina.

The women play on Friday at 7 p.m. while the men take the pitch the following night, also at 7 p.m.

Volleyball will travel to Clemson, S.C. this weekend for the Clemson Classic tournament. The event pairs them against three Power-5 conference schools. On Friday, they will take on South Carolina at 4 p.m., and they will also play a Saturday doubleheader against Clemson and then Texas Tech.

Reeling football team

After falling to 0-2 after a loss to FCS New Hampshire, the Eagles are set for a bye week before heading to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers.

The game time was announced this week for 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 23.
