GS Women’s Golf Places 11th at Kiawah Island Spring Classic

The Eagles finished 11th of 43 teams competing at this week’s three-round Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.

GS sophomore and Phoenix, Arizona native Ariana Macioce continued her high level of play after shooting a school record 68 in the Eagles’ last tournament. Macioce finished tied for eighth overall in the huge field of players at Kiawah, shooting a 2-under-par 70 in her first of three rounds in the tournament. She shot a 72 and 73 in the following rounds and finished with a final tally of 1-under-par for the event.

GS senior Iben Hvass placed tied for 39th in the tournament, with her best single performance of the event a 1-under-par 71 in the second round.

GS senior Lauren Coe and sophomore Ansley Bowman cracked the top 100 individuals as well, each in a tie for 86th with a final tally of 14-over-par. Coe shot a 1-under-par 71 in the third and final round to catapult herself up the leaderboard.

Coastal Carolina finished first overall on the team leaderboard, with a final score of 6-over-par as a team. College of Charleston, the tournament’s host school, finished one stroke behind CCU for second place, followed by Southern Mississippi in third place at 9-over-par.

College of Charleston senior Laura Fuenfstuck won the tournament’s individual crown, with rounds of 70, 68, and 70 combining for an impressive 8-under-par for the tournament.

Next Up

The next tournament the women will compete in will take place in Dade City, Florida during spring break. The WKU-USM Spring Break Shootout will begin Monday, March 13 and end Tuesday, March 14.
