The Georgia Southern Eagles men’s basketball team won their eighth straight game, beating Coastal Carolina 91-80. The win put the Eagles to 7-0 in conference play, still two games ahead in first place.

The Eagles started off fast with sophomores forward Montae Glenn and sophomore guard Ike Smith scoring 16 of the team’s first 19 points. A mainstay the Eagles had throughout the game was out-rebounding the Chanticleers, who lead the Sun Belt in rebounding.

Smith and sophomore Tookie Brown led the Eagles in scoring with 21 and 23 points respectively. They both lead the Sun Belt in scoring as the conference’s best back-court duo.

The Chanticleers stayed in the game with 15 points each from seniors Elijah Wilson and Colton Ray-St Cyr. Though they shot 45 percent from the field, they began to falter against the Eagles after the ninth minute in the second half to fall by double digits.

The Eagles’ next game will be on the road against South Alabama Saturday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m.
