Eagles defeat Troy 86-82

The Eagles came out on top against Troy in Hanner Fieldhouse 86-82 with five players scoring in double figures.

Sophomore Tookie Brown led the Eagles with 24 points and 3 assists, while regular scorers Ike Smith and Mike Hughes added 13 and 12 points respectively.

Junior B.J Gladden also contributed with 10 points and 3 rebounds to help the Eagles secure the win. With the help of the supporting cast contributing around the triple threat of Hughes, Brown and Smith, the Eagles have started the season 2-0 in conference play, the first time for them since moving to the Sun Belt.

“We have a lot guys on offense that can make a lot of different plays in different ways, and our major commitment, especially the last four to five weeks, has been on defense,” Mark Byington, Georgia Southern University head basketball coach, said.

The win over Troy puts the Eagles in first place as the only undefeated team in the Sun Belt in conference play. The Eagles play South Alabama at home in their next game on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.
