Barefoot Outfitters, the campus clothing store located on Chandler Road next to Dingus McGee’s, is hosting a fire sale this month in preparation of closing the store.

In order to salvage what they can from their inventory, Barefoot Outfitters is offering significant sales until they officially close. In recent days, the store has experienced a sharp increase in customer traffic.

According to Austin Adams, an employee at Barefoot Outfitters and a junior business management major, their current fire sale is “by far” the best sale the clothing store has offered.

“Right now we’re doing $5 and $10 t-shirts, and any items that are over $50 are going to be marked down to $25, and then a lot of other items are 50 percent off,” Adams said.

In addition to these deals, all the store’s hats are marked down to $10.

Barefoot Outfitters joins a long list of closed businesses in the Statesboro area, including Grays Bookstore, Rum Runners, Retrievers, Moonshiners, Big Shows, Hungry Howies, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and more. From low-income college students to a location that’s seeing less and less traffic, there are a multitude of circumstances that could be the store’s undoing.

However, Adams believes that it’s a combination of factors that led Barefoot Outfitters to Statesboro’s local business graveyard.

“Honestly, it’s just hard for businesses around here to adapt to the University Store and the University in general. A lot of it has to do with licensing and just sales in general. Plus, with this location, there’s not a lot of foot traffic coming this way. Just a lot of little things added up,” Adams said.

At this time, there’s no exact date for the store’s closing, but it will be out of business in approximately one month.
