Georgia Southern University’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) has won the MacArthur Award.Georgia Southern University was chosen as one of 8 ROTC programs to win the accolade.

According to news.georgiasouthern.eu, The decision was announced last week by the U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky. This is Georgia Southern’s Eagle Battalions third time winning the MacArthur Award since 2009.

The award is given to the top ROTC programs from each of the eight brigades.

Georgia Southern’s Eagle Battalion is in the 6th Brigade. Within the 6th Brigade The Eagle Battalion had to beat out 39 programs from 6 states and Puerto Rico.

The award is given on the basis of overall performance, national order of Merit List standings, and cadet retention rate. The MacArthur award is given by the cadet command and the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation.

The Georgia Southern Eagle Battalion has also been recognized recently for having the top nursing program for 2015, highest GPA for mission set 17, and exceeding the contract goal for STEM cadets.
