It came as a shock to see that hoverboards would be banned on Georgia Southern campus before students came back to campus. However the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) reports that this ban is across several different campuses.

The University System of Georgia has allowed the individual universities to make their own judgments on the self-balancing motorized vehicles. So as the Consumer Product Safety Commission investigated claims of the boards erupting in flames and falling concerns, many universities have come out and decided to ban them all together.

According to AJC here are the universities who have made bans:

  • Armstrong State University
  • Augusta University
  • Columbus State University
  • Fort Valley State University
  • Georgia Gwinnett College
  • Georgia Southern University
  • Georgia State University
  • Georgia Tech (advises against uses them, but banned them from use in campus buildings)
  • Kennesaw State University
  • University of Georgia (cannot use in residence halls, but can around campus)
  • University of North Georgia

Savannah College of Art and Design in an interesting judgment classifies as skateboards and other similar modes of transportations so hoverboards are not banned
