Every first Friday of the month, downtown Statesboro hosts events to get the community to come out and experience the historic side of the city. Statesboro Herald reports this month it is all about Christmas.

The first Friday of December is this week, December 4th, and the festivities are high for this one night. According to the Statesboro Herald, there will be a Christmas train, tree lighting, a holiday parade, and the Run the Boro 5k.

All money earned from the 5k will go to the Open Hearts Community Mission, and the run only costs $25 to enter. Registration ends Friday either online at the Open Hearts Community Mission (closes at 7 a.m.) or at City Hall (closes at 4 p.m.). The race will start with the festivities at 5:30 p.m.

The Statesboro Herald continued to discuss the different celebrity guests that will be at the event. These festivities will all be led by Adrian Peterson, a GSU Eagle star football player from 1998 to 2001 and who also went on the play for the Chicago Bears. Jared Wade, 2013 Georgia Music Awards Country Male Vocalist of the Year, will also be singing holiday songs on top of the balcony of City Hall. The celebration will last from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
