Velvet Rose is the name of the new tattoo studio in Statesboro that opened on September 1st. Mark Simmons, the proprietor, and his wife Jean Simmons. who does the piercing work, own the shop. Simmons has 23 years of experience doing tattoos; he started drawing and tattooing at a young age. He owned a tattoo shop in Augusta named Studio 13 for 11 years and worked at Resurrection Ink in Savannah for two years.

He opened Velvet Rose in Statesboro because he wanted to bring quality tattoo work to the area. The integrity of his art is of utmost importance to Mark and a great deal of discretion is left up to him. All the artists at Velvet Rose are about originality; they are not copy machines. The tattoo is subject to the artist’s interpretation. At Velvet Rose they also value professionalism highly.

The atmosphere of the shop is laid back with a classic vide. Pictures of old school icons like James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley cover the walls. Everyone is warm and inviting insuring a good experience.
