The annual Project Purple Ribbon event is tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Center. Project Purple Ribbon aims to end interpersonal violence.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will be a fashion show hosted by the D.I.M.E.S. Fashion Organization. The show will feature appearances by the D.I.M.E.S. Model Troupe, Random Acts of Poetry, Definition Dance Company, and ShopC22 Pop Up Shop.
The event is free and opened to the public. Donations of money, canned goods, and clothing will be accepted at the door. All donations will go to Safe Haven, an emergency safe house for adult and child victims of domestic violence in Bullock, Candler, Effingham, Jenkins, Screven and Washington counties.
According to a national study on Safe Haven’s website, every 15 seconds an act of domestic violence occurs in the United States. 25% of women and 7.6% of men have be victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives.
This event aims to bring awareness to such a pervasive issue in the world today.
