Journalists killed in Virginia Shooting

Update: According to Associated Press, the shooter died in the hospital at 1:26 pm yesterday at Inova Fairfax Hospital

Two TV journalists were shot and killed this morning in Moneta, Virginia. Correspondents with WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia were attacked while live on air and the reporter and cameraman were killed. 

According to CNN, Alison Parker, 24-year-old reporter, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were doing a live report on a shopping district in Moneta and interviewing executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, Vicki Gardner, when they were approached and shot by the suspect on air. Gardner was injured but is stable after surgery.

The suspect, Vester Flanagan, was on the run after the shooting and crashed on Interstate 66. According to the Associated Press, the suspect was found with life threatening injuries. 

The suspect was a reporter for WDBJ for about a year and was said to have poor performance, refuse to follow directions, and have anger problems. He was terminated by February 2013.
