ULL takes down Lady Eagles

Coming off of a big conference win, the Lady Eagles were home again tonight against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. They looked strong but fell to the Ragin Cajuns, 69-57.

Things didn’t look good at the start as ULL pulled away to an early 11-2 lead. Senior Eagle guard Anna Claire Knight and freshman Sierra Butler brought back the Eagles on an eight point run to get within one point, 11-10. Before long, the Ragin Cajuns were able to retake a commanding lead and score 15 unanswered points. Knight finished out the half with eight points and Georgia Southern trailed 31-26.

ULL started the second half sharp. They managed to outscore the Lady Eagles 6-2 in the first three minutes.  Both teams were playing physical basketball and neither looked dominant over the other. Knight drained a three-pointer five minutes into the second half to keep her team within five points. She followed it up with another three two minutes later to give her 17 points on the night.

With only seven minutes left on the clock the Lady Eagles were behind 49-43. The Ragin Cajuns were able to hit a stride and began to pull away. As time wound down the Eagles were down ten and sophomore guard Angel McGowan nailed a three with just over a minute left on the clock. She was followed by junior forward Patrice Butler nailing one from outside the arch.

Despite the effort at the end it would not be enough as the Lady Eagles fell to ULL, 69-57. Knight finished the game with 19 points, with McGowan tallying 17. Next up this Saturday they will face the Troy Trojans on the road in Alabama.
