August 26, 3:50 p.m.: All power outage problems should be resolved now according to an alert from the Statesboro Police Department.

According to Georgia Power, they responded to a “critical equipment failure” at a relay station at Veterans Memorial Parkway and Highway 301.

“Georgia Power has a substation issue that is requiring redistribution of loads throughout Statesboro,” Steve Watkins, GSU’s Energy Manager, said.

Georgia Southern University plans to have a power outage today around 2 p.m. lasting about 30 minutes. This outage may affect all of campus.

“We’re working with Georgia Power to get everything working by later this afternoon,” James Grigg, director of Facilities Operation, said.

Georgia Power is reporting about 5,700 customers without power.
