Lavelle Westbrooks fought his way into the final day of the draft as he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 252nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

“I feel great, I am very blessed and excited to know where I am going to play football,” Westbooks said in a news release. “I wasn’t anxious today, but the Bengals were the first team I met with and after all this time, they chose me. I spoke to Darius (Eubanks) today and he told me that we’re in a very physical conference. I want to go up there, play ball and show them what I can do.”

Westbrooks raised eyebrows at the NFL combine with his size and speed. He clocked a 4.62 40-yard dash and was graded with a 5.3 by NFL.com which falls means they expect him to be a solid back up or special teams player.

Scouts said the Westbrooks has good size and is very physical. His ability to see into the backfield and slow down the run game was a huge asset to professional coaches along with his ability to consistently make tackles in the open field.

As the draft closed, two former Eagles found their way to NFL teams with Jerick McKinnon being drafted in the third round by the Minnesota Vikings yesterday. Fans will have their first chance to watch Westbrooks against the Kansas City Chiefs on August 8.
