The Armstrong Network of Black Alumni (NoBA) is hosting its first social event Saturday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. The NoBA was established this past July with the goal of promoting and furthering the educational and professional development of existing and future black alumni.

The event’s main purpose is to get people acquainted with the NoBA and each other. Snacks, prizes and information on upcoming events and how to get involved will be provided. Although the focus is on providing services and help for black alumni—past and future—all Pirates are welcome to join and support the group.

“The NoBA has a bright future ahead of them and is looking forward to RSO collaborations, serving Armstrong and other communities and, most importantly, providing all black students—American or not—with the skills and resources that they would need to become the best that they can be,” Latoriya Young, co-founder and president of the NoBA, said.

Young stressed the idea that past black alumni have made it possible for the NoBA to form. It has been the black alumni’s “determination and boldness that opened doors for many,” she explained. Past students will be celebrated within the NoBA.
