First Day Must-Haves
A necessities and tips list brought to you by a manic overthinker:
If there is one thing about me, it is that I am prepared. Sometimes it’s compulsive, sometimes it’s unhealthy, and sometimes it means having two changes of clothes and an extra pair of shoes for just one day, but at least I am prepared. So, I am here to share some of my must-haves for the first day, whether you’re a freshman or a senior.
1. An outfit that makes you feel at home with yourself. It doesn’t matter as long as you feel good in it. I will go to my grave saying an outfit can set the tone for your day.
2. Screenshot your class schedule and make it your lock screen. This way, you have it right in front of you, and you’re not wasting time trying to find it.
3. LOOK UP WHERE YOUR CLASSES ARE THE NIGHT BEFORE!
4. Water.
5. You do not need a whole binder for the first day but at least bring a notebook and a pencil.
6. (This one goes out to the first-year students) Please don’t raise your hand to go to the bathroom. You pay to be here; it’s not required, so get up and use it!
7. Any kind of jacket. Some professors like the classroom to feel like the arctic tundra, and I am trying to avoid frostbite.
8. Try to relax.
9. Lastly, a good attitude, just kidding, but seriously, college is what you make it to be. You might as well try to have a good time there.
Realistically, I understand that not all the tips will be acknowledged. I hope that listening to at least one will make your day a little better. We are trying to get through this with as little debt and emotional trauma as possible.

Thanks for the tips Emmie! I agree with all of them. Just a side-note though … we have no control over the temperature of our classrooms. We get just as cold (and sometimes as hot) as you all do in our buildings.
