Today Track and Field is seen as one of the most competitive sports in the world. Naj Watson represents Georgia Southern as the track performer of the year.
It’s amazing to know she’s the only eagle to win the award . With her so many steps she takes off the track, you can’t help to wonder how she spends her days.
“I start off my day off going to class doing treatment and then usually going to practice,” said Naj. “I manage it by making sure I get all my work done first before coming to practice and if I have time after then I do as much as I can.”
As for the classroom, Naj plans to major in social studies. Any college student knows managing school isn’t easy, so you can only imagine throwing in everything that comes with running track and field.
“When it comes down to competing on weekends I try to get all of my work done through the week so when I’m actually traveling and competing I won’t have a to do so it won’t be as stressful and every now and again I leave one or two assignments and I do it on the road there.” said Naj
Only in her sophomore year Naj has already set several school records and earned a number of sun belt honors. Even after beating her personal records she still has her personal goals off the track.
“One thing I really want to improve on would be knowing that it’s okay for things not to be okay and knowing that sometimes I have to take a step back to take a step forward,” said Naj.
Naj also stated that since running her freshman year she’s proven herself not only physically but mentally.
“I think I’ve grown a lot mentally at trying to be a better person be motivated and not to be too hard on myself mentally and when my mind follows my body follows.”
