LGBTQIA+ organizations, both on and off campus, are hosting sit-ins in support of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff at Georgia Southern.
We reached out to the LGBTQIA+ organizations prior to today about the sit-ins happening on both campuses from 11 am to 1pm. The Georgia SouthernUniversity Queer Advocacy Group responded with what we can expect to see today.
“These sit-ins are peaceful, nonviolent demonstrations to highlight the visibility and presence of LGBTQIA+ students, staff, faculty, and community members. The intention is to showcase the value of and the diversity within this community, and to make our presence known on campus.”
They also mentioned what we can expect to see from students attending the sit-ins, “You’ll see students wearing pride colors, with pride flags, and handing out identity-pride bracelets. We will also have some information on the rollback of advertising of LGBTQIA+ resources that is currently happening on campus. We hope for it to be a positive, safe space of queer joy and visibility.”
