Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro Campus is a diverse campus with lots of joyous energy. Ranging from the students who skate to class to students who participate in intramural sports for fun. This amazing campus features students from all walks of life.
However, the questions that should be asked are: Do we really know each other? Who are we as people?
Introducing this segment to the Statesboro Campus, the George-Anne staff will randomly select students, staff, and teachers on campus and give them an opportunity to explain who they are and what their story means to them in life. This segment will be known as “Eagle Spotlight”, bringing light to those who may not be known or those you just see in passing every other day. Introducing a familiar face among the students of Statesboro is none other than Alex Azpiazu.
Alex is a Junior at GSU on the Statesboro campus majoring in Computer Science.
George Anne Staff: What’s your overall experience at Southern so far?
Alex A.: “It’s pretty fun, most of the classes are pretty easy but when you get into the classes that are your major you have to try and it’s harder.”
George Anne Staff: “What’s your hardest and most fun class so far?”
Alex A.: “My hardest class to date was Theoretical Foundations, but it wasn’t that bad. It’s like a lot more logic than math. When you reach the end of class, you have a big programming project and I couldn’t find a partner, which was fine. I had my brother, who was also a science major, help me out so it worked out. The project is called DFA, which stands for Deterministic Finite Automaton. The project is, you have to give it a language and it can be simple as words containing one and two or just a and b, and then you have to be able to test a word and see if that word is in the language.”
George Anne Staff: Is there any advice you would give to younger students?
Alex A.: “Take easy classes seriously, like FYE, early math classes, stuff like that, because you can build up your GPA with that. And once you reach much harder classes, which are usually related to your major, you won’t have to worry about your GPA dropping too much.”
