As the fall semester takes full swing, students are searching for jobs to begin padding their pockets with a little extra cash. And last week, the Student Employment Center held a part-time job fair for students to meet some potential new employers.
The job fair gives students an opportunity to meet with employers and discover what they’re looking for in new employees.
“We’re just looking for anybody who is looking to get engaged, wanting to get the word out,” said Melody Kimble. “We’re real big about community involvement with queer issues, with making queer people feel seen and heard.”
As more employers hope graduates have relevant experience when applying out of college, students must take advantage of any experience offered.
“Conservation is what I’m planning to go into, and I didn’t even know there was an area around here that did that, so that just helped me find that. Also there’s so many other things that I can explore in the world of biology that may be here,” said Nadia Yaeger
Traditional interviews can be intimidating, especially for students who might lack experience. The job fair offers a low risk, low stress environment for students to show themselves to employers. Program Supervisor of Bulloch County Recreation and Parks, Tiffany Burgess, offered her insight.
“I think it’s just a little bit more laid back and comfortable. I feel like people come up to us and talk about their interests, too, instead of us just pushing questions on them like in a regular interview. And they can see everything we have to offer versus just getting online and applying for one job in particular,” said Tiffany Burgess
The job fair happens the first Wednesday of every month from eleven to one, make sure to visit the next one and explore what jobs Statesboro has to offer.
