As we close this week, there is so much to look forward to next week, since it’s Homecoming Week! This year’s theme is “Sweet Southern,” putting a spin on Candyland. Jam-packed with events, there is something for everyone.
All of these events are put together by the Office of Student Activities (OSA). From t-shirt grabs to the football game, there are some great opportunities for students to get involved and have some fun.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Monday, Oct. 14
- Students can grab a t-shirt at the rotunda and then head downtown for the Sweet Southern Parade, starting at 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 15
- Moving into Tuesday, we have the most anticipated event of the week, the Doo-Dah Dance and Step Show in Hanner Fieldhouse, starting at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 16
- The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) will be holding its Unity Fest at the Rotunda at 11 a.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 17 & Friday, Oct. 18
- Ending off the week, students can get food and sweet treats at the Rotunda with the Sweet Heat BBQ & Tailgate on Thursday and The Candyland Classic on Friday.
- Saturday, Oct. 19
- Students can start their morning at the RAC by participating in the True Blue 5k Race at 8 a.m. before getting ready for the game at 4 p.m. where the Eagles take on James Madison University. At halftime, homecoming royalty will be crowned, so you don’t want to miss it.
- Following the game, American Idol contestant Will Moseley is performing a free concert outside of Paulson Stadium.
Urkovia Andrews, Associate Director of Student Wellness and Health Promotion hopes students can get involved and socialize during these events. “Homecoming is a great opportunity for students to be exposed to various groups on campus that they may want to be a part of and also a great way for groups to recruit new members with the same interest,” she said. “This is also an ideal time for students to participate in activities that bring them joy and improve their overall well-being such as socializing with friends, trying new foods, learning a new skill, supporting fellow eagles, and showing their Georgia Southern pride,” she added.
