The Formal Clothing Drive is being held to provide students with free clothing for the Snowball Winter Formal.
Donations can be dropped off at the Student Engagement Suite, which is located in the Student Union in room 234. Donations will be accepted from 8 am to 5 pm until Feb. 5.
“We’re collecting gently used formal attire for students in need of a little extra sparkle this season. From elegant gowns, suits and tuxedos to dress shoes, shawls, and accessories—your donations will help fellow students look their best at the Snowball Winter Formal,” according to the Georgia Southern University Calendar website.
The Snowball Winter Formal will take place in the Student Union Ballroom on Feb. 26 from 6 pm to 9 pm. There will be a live DJ, food and a photobooth available for those who attend.
“The goal of the formal clothing drive is to give an option to not have to pay to go get outfits for our event later this month,” said Abigayle Sheldon, a Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Activities.
She also said that the formal clothing drive will lead to a giveaway on February 6, which will consist of any of the items students dropped off during that time period. The remainder of the items from the giveaway will be donated to a local Goodwill.
Students who do not attend Georgia Southern are allowed to come, “so if they have a friend that lives in Savannah or goes to another school or whatever it may be, they’re allowed to bring them and have a good time.”
