Statesboro Tree Board partnered with Statesboro’s Food Bank to celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting.
Members of the community were encouraged to donate canned food items so they could be placed in a lottery for a free fruit tree.
“It was so nice this year to see more people because last year we had gotten the word out, but I feel like this year and with it being with the food bank too, I feel like they also had people come and support it,” said Treeboard chairman Shawn Diddie. “So it was nice just to see everyone coming together to help with this, to help with the event.”
Shawn says the collaboration with the food bank was a good way to reach out to the community and show the importance of planting trees.
