A spectacle of illuminated lanterns, costumes and music came slithering through the Starland District on Saturday evening. Neighbors watched from outside of their homes as the Mardi-Gras style parade brought life through the streets.

The Slithering Parade started in 2021 by Brent Buice and Michael Kuenlen and has been growing larger each year. The event takes place in March prior to St.Patrick’s day and is free to everyone of all ages. The only rule is to participate with a snake-themed lantern.

The parade celebrates the legendary folktale of when St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland and into the sea. But more than anything, the Slithering parade is a reason for the community of Savannah to join together and have fun!

Leading the parade in song was the Brazilian-style group, Samba Savannah. The band played traditional, energetic beats and featured vocals, a guitar and lots of drums.
