Two popular restaurants in Statesboro closed on March 16. Soyumi, located on Buckhead Drive, and Statesboro Hots, located on Brampton Avenue, both had unexpected closures after many changes have been happening in Statesboro.
“I feel like it’s really sad as a college community because Soyumi was always a great place to go for Friday nights or Sunday dinner,” said Kambre Gillespie.
Soyumi first opened in August 2017 and was owned by Adam Tsang. Soyumi was a sushi and asian fusion cuisine restaurant. Southern Hots was owned by Pat and Allie Groom and they first opened in 2022.
“Statesboro Hots, I never got to personally try it for myself, but I heard it was very good and I always saw a lot of cars out there so it’s kind of sad,” said Gillespie.
As Statesboro says goodbye to Soyumi and Southern Hots, many are left reflecting on the memories made inside those walls. While doors may be closed, the impact of these two places won’t be forgotten.
