“First we mine. Then, we craft. Minecraft!” – Steve.
This past weekend I had the pleasure and honor of seeing “A Minecraft Movie.” If you don’t know what Minecraft is (I’ll be very impressed), it’s an infinite sandbox game that took over the world in 2011, that allows players to create anything in their mind’s imagination.
On April 4, Minecraft released “A Minecraft Movie.” Almost overnight, it took over the world, just as the game did upon its release, bringing in $301 million globally, making it the biggest opening for a video game adaptation ever. What did I think of it, though? I thought you’d never ask!
My Opinion:
Now, I will throw it out there that I am 100% biased as I grew up playing and loving the game since day one. That being said, this was one of the funniest, most creative, most imaginative, and heartwarming movies I have ever been to. If you’re looking for a movie with a solid plot line that’s driven and action-packed and has meaning, then this movie simply isn’t for you. However, if you’re like me and went in knowing that it’s a PG, comedy, movie meant for children and people who grew up playing the game for fun, then I can almost guarantee you loved this movie as much as I did.
Without spoiling anything, the movie is about the character Steve and his experience in the “overworld.” Steve lives a generally happy life in this world when suddenly a trip to the Nether suddenly puts all of Minecraft at stake. He must team up with four unlikely people to save the land and restore balance. It’s amazing.
I went with my lovely boyfriend Joey to the movie and here’s what he had to say about it: “I’d give it a 7/10. I enjoyed the movie and it was really fun. It’s a stupid movie that knows it’s a stupid movie, which to me makes it fricken awesome!”
Some other reviews I heard/got at the theater, from anonymous sources (kids because that’s who was all in our theater) were: “This was the BEST MOVIE I’VE EVER SEEN,” and “It was so much fun and my favorite character was the Garbage Man.” Lastly, from an adult, I heard “I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in years, there was never a dull moment.”
That’s all for now! If you get the chance I highly recommend going and watching this movie, you will not regret it!
