Hearts and hands clinic hosted their annual event, Grillin’ for Healing on Saturday March 29.
Hearts and Hands Clinic provides free medical healthcare for low income medically uninsured residents of Bulloch county.
Ten different teams competed in the barbecue championship where the winner, Sweets BBQ, placed first place. Each team was sponsored by different organizations from the county.
“I am incredibly grateful because it’s so difficult. There’s so many nonprofits in Bulloch county. And each group, we’re all trying to have our own fundraiser and we all work together to help the same people. Everybody really just comes together just for a cause that’s beyond us,” said executive director of Hearts and Hands Clinic Kara Holland.
The event featured live music provided by local children’s bands and entertainment for kids by providing bouncy houses.
“It’s a fun time. It’s like a tailgate without a football game to go into. It’s just a fun time. They’ve got the bands going so they put on a great show. But again, the Hearts and hands clinic is such a wonderful organization that this is all a fundraiser for it. 100 percent of the proceeds go to it. So it’s an amazing thing that helps underprivileged people that need healthcare,” says participant David Kennedy.
The total amount raised by the end of the night was $33,000.
