The women’s volleyball team traveled to Milledgeville, Georgia this past weekend to take on Georgia College and State University. The volleyball team knocked off Georgia College with a 3-0 win in the Peach Belt Conference at the Centennial Center. The Pirates, now ranked 22nd in the AVCA Division II Top 25, had set scores of 26-24, 25-13, and 25-12.
In the first set, the Pirates rallied from being down 20-24 and scored six consecutive points, including two kills from sophomore Emily Wylie. The Pirates dominated the second and third sets, with 19 kills and two errors to defeat the Bobcats 25-13 in the second set and winning 11 of the last 13 points to end the third set with a win of 25-12.
The Pirates ended the day with three players in double digit kills: Emily Wylie with 14 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, senior Stephanie Sfara had 13 kills and 18 digs, and sophomore Anna McGee with 12 kills. Senior Morgan Hill achieved a season-high of 26 digs, and senior Kamryn Sherman had 42 assists, while Kim Brody delivered 3 service aces, and Taylor Permenter had 4 blocks.
“Our team works very hard. Not just during the season, but also in the off season,” Head Coach Will Condon said. “Individual performances, like Morgan having 26 digs, come from hard work but also take advantage of moments. You have to be in a position to be able to take advantages of opportunities to be successful.”
The Pirates will play at home on Wednesday, September 24 against Francis Marion in its home opener at 7:00 p.m. in the ARC.
