The Wizards Are Back In Town

Students React to News of Wizards of Waverly Place Reboot
The+Wizards+Are+Back+In+Town

On Friday, Jan. 19, the best announcement to have ever been made was announced… Wizards of Waverly Place is returning!! Currently (unfortunately) there is no release date yet, but according to David Henrie himself, they’re already filming the pilot episode and that this is “the year magic comes back!”

So what will this sequel be about? Will it even be good? (If you ask me, anything Selena Gomez and David Henrie are in is guaranteed to be amazing). The sequel will be following Justin Russo after he leaves his job at WizTech, along with his powers/magic, so that he can live out a normal, non-magic life, with his family until a strong young wizard shows up needing his help. I for one am ecstatic about this sequel and couldn’t be more obsessed, but let’s see what the rest of the campus has to say about it.

“To me, typically reboots aren’t great, and personally some things should just stay done. For example, I heard that the iCarly reboot was bad, but I really really love Selena Gomez and she deserves a check, so I’m definitely all for this one,” Emma Medsker said.

(I just want to make it known that I personally loved the iCarly reboot and THE CLIFFHANGER KILLED ME.)

Unfortunately, Emma and I seem to be some of the only ones who are actually stoked for the reboot, but I can’t exactly blame people for having their doubts when the most recent reboots to come out were iCarly, Zoey 101, and The Fairly Odd Parents.

Another GS student, Haley Gonser, put the reason as to why reboots/sequels are known to “flop” best.

“Most sequels simply just don’t end up well because the originals are better,” Gonser said.

Essentially,, the originals simply were so well made and perfectly concluded that the need for a sequel just isn’t there. It makes me wonder though, what would be the perfect sequel based off of old tv favorites? Personally, I think Good Luck Charlie would be PHENOMENAL.

All in all, despite the critics and doubts surrounding the upcoming sequel, I cannot wait and I’m expecting great things.
