Georgia Southern’s homecoming game against James Madison resulted in a win of 28 to 14. The game day started with tailgating at 8 am. Georgia Southern fans had tents, trucks, and tables set up with food, drinks, and games.
A Georgia Southern tradition known as Eagle Walk welcomed the football team to enter the stadium. The game kicked off with the Southern Pride marching band performing pregame. Pregame consists of the fight song, stands tunes, the national anthem and freedom’s flight.
The beginning of halftime consisted of the band playing three songs. The second half introduced homecoming contestants and winners for this year’s nominees, Peyton Lewis and Sarah Bowen.
The football team has been preparing for this game in particular.
“We got something to prove, we got a goal in mind which is sunbelt championship and it’s homecoming week, and we got a lot of alumni coming back. We wanna make them proud. Just make all of Eagle nation happy,” quarterback Dexter Williams said.
Georgia Southern had the lead the entire game by scoring a touchdown in the first quarter, two in the second, and one in the third. JMU’s team scored one touchdown in the third quarter and one in the fourth.
“I love Georgia Southern football. It’s the best thing I’ve come to see especially where I come from. Best football we played right here. We can show you real sunbelt football right here in this stadium.” junior JJ Vargas said.
The night closed with the band playing the alma mater.
