The Georgia Southern Eagles continued their undefeated run with a hard-fought 54-50 victory over Bethune-Cookman, holding off a late rally to secure the win in a tightly contested game.
1st Quarter
- Both teams held each other to fewer than 10 points until the final seconds of the quarter.
- The Eagles and Wildcats each scored late baskets, with the quarter ending in a close 12-10 lead for GS.
2nd Quarter
- The quarter started off slow-paced, with both teams staying under 20 points nearly halfway through.
- The score remained tight as Bethune-Cookman hit a three-pointer to make it 19-17.
- Both teams traded baskets, but the Eagles managed to build their biggest lead of the game so far at 27-22.
- The Wildcats tied the game going into halftime, 29-29.
3rd Quarter
- Both teams came out more aggressive to start the second half. While the score remained close, the Eagles stayed in front for most of the quarter.
- The game was tied again at the end of the third, 40-40.
4th Quarter
- The Eagles maintained their lead early in the fourth, but the Wildcats stayed within striking distance, trailing by just two points four minutes into the quarter.
- GS’s McKenna Eddings hit a second-chance three-pointer to extend the Eagles’ lead to five, followed by another three from Jazmyne Jackson, putting GS up by eight.
- The Eagles held their lead through the final minutes, even adding some crucial free throws to secure the 54-50 victory.
Head Coach Hana Haden praised her team’s resilience, “That was a really tough game, especially when we couldn’t get anything going offensively. We also struggled with foul trouble, which added another challenge. But I’m proud of our players for staying focused down the stretch and making the key plays needed to win.”
