Students returned to campus this week, opening a new chapter beyond the transition into the New Year.
As students fit the time in their schedules to eat in the dining hall, they are also purchasing
materials suited for their success such as textbooks, rulers, calculators and other kinds of
necessary school equipment.
Some of these students have a few things to say about returning to the Armstrong campus.
A common extracurricular activity that students sign up for are clubs.
John Byan, a first year psychology major, said that he will be “club-hunting soon enough, so that
may yield fruit.”
“If anyone is ever thinking about coming to Georgia Southern, you should definitely join some clubs,” Madison Erwin, a third year psychology major, said.
Hibiscus, a dual enrollment student also said that they plan to go to clubs more often.
The new semester is also a common time for students to create academic goals for themselves.
Ellie McCullough, a third year communications major, said that her goals were to keep her
grades up and get more connections in communications. As advice to our fellow students, she
said to “keep your head up and keep going” and that “it will be a good year if we all can.”
A new school semester may seem like an opportunity to find other like-minded individuals and
befriend them, but that does not mean that there will not also be challenges.
Samantha Shipman, a senior art education major mentioned that she was very stressed the first
day of returning but then became relaxed since “having nothing to do for a while and then having
a lot to do is overwhelming.”
Adjusting to a new routine can be difficult as winter break is known for taking a step back from
schoolwork, drinking hot chocolate and celebrating the holidays with family members.
Remember to develop effective study habits, get enough sleep, do leisurely activities with your
friends and begin taking those long hours of notes from lectures. With that being said, let’s
make the spring of 2025 a semester to remember.
