The time has come guys… The days are getting a little longer, it’s getting warmer, the sun is shining, and flowers are starting to grow back, Spring is coming! What comes with spring? Cleaning!
According to a 2011 Princeton Neuroscience Institute Study, clearing away clutter allows the brain to focus on items and tasks one at a time. Having a clean space allows the brain to relax and not feel overwhelmed by its environment; It helps better regulate your emotions, feel less stressed and anxious, and, in times like this when midterms are approaching and everything feels out of control, it’s a way for you to regain that control and take a breath.
So without further ado, here are a few tips and tricks, from myself and a few other Georgia Southern Students, to get you started!
General Tips:
- Start Small
-
- Looking at all of it at once can be extremely overwhelming, so start with the smallest task first and go from there.
- Be realistic with your time
- Things don’t happen all at once and things don’t always happen in one hour or day either, it’s progressive. Make sure you set realistic goals and expectations for yourself and your cleaning abilities.
- Sometimes cleaning doesn’t mean deep cleaning
- Sometimes it means just picking up your clothes off the floor and vacuuming, that is ok!!
Georgia Southern Students Dylan Patton, Nathaniel Mooney, Kaitlyn Muni and Elizabeth Ruder Share Specific Tricks:
- To clean your ceiling fan, wrap a towel around the blade to wipe it off without a mess.
- Keep a cleaning toothbrush around for window tracks, door tracks, and hard-to-reach areas.
- Magic erasers are your best friend for grime and build-up.
- Olive Oil works really great for cleaning stainless steel.
- For a really good-smelling room, wet a towel with water and essential oil and wipe your walls with it.
- When it comes to cleaning out clothes, it’s best to get rid of clothes you didn’t wear within the last season/3-6 months; whether it be donating them, selling them, or just packing them away until the next time you need them.
- Use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to clean grout.
- Use white vinegar to get water stains out of your toilet.
Well, that is all for now, I hope this helps you get started on your cleaning!! I send you my very best wishes!
