Georgia Southern implemented new to-go containers for all dining services on campus on March 3, and after March 24, all non-reusable styrofoam containers will be removed.
These containers will be available for anyone with an Access+ dining plan. Students who get these containers must log into ReusePass with their Georgia Southern information. All original containers will have a QR code that students can use to start their accounts.
“When they speak with a cashier, they use their to-go swipe like normal, then check out a box with their ReusePass QR code,” said April Burke, Engagement & Communications Strategist at Georgia Southern. “They’ll receive one of the blue, Sustain Southern boxes that they can use in the facility.”
These plastic containers are not microwave-safe and can not be left in freezers. Students can use these containers for three days and must return them cleaned. Those who don’t return their containers will have to pay a $8 fee in their student balance account.
“I think the new sustainable boxes are much better than the new ones,” said Sean Mays, a freshman at Georgia Southern. “I think they are way better for sustainability and reducing waste.”
