Police searching for suspect in walking trail flashing incident
January 29, 2020
STATESBORO — Statesboro police are seeking information on a suspect who reportedly grabbed the arm of a female jogger and exposed his genitals on the S&S Greenway walking trail Tuesday.
The jogger was approached by a young, possibly Hispanic man with a black goatee who wore a white puffy jacket, black skinny jeans and a black flat-billed hat, according to SPD’s media release.
The suspect allegedly asked the jogger if she had a boyfriend, then grabbed her forearm when she said “no.” The jogger punched the suspect’s shoulder, and then he exposed his genitals to her, according to the media release.
After the incident, the suspect walked into the woods toward Cawana Road, according to the media release.
SPD said the suspect may have approached other female joggers in the area as well.
SPD officers failed to find the suspect and are seeking the public’s assistance in finding and identifying the suspect, according to the media release.
“While the S&S Walking Trail is a popular spot for those seeking fresh air and exercise, it is important to remain vigilant even there. Be mindful of individuals approaching you as you exercise and take care in areas where persons could conceal themselves. If possible, exercise with a cell phone in the even that you need to call for assistance, for whatever reason. Exercising in groups also promotes safety,” SPD wrote in the media release.
SPD advises visitors to the trail to get to a place of safety and call 911 if they are approached by a suspicious person.
Anyone with information on the suspect can contact SPD at 912-764-9911.
