Chattanooga frustrates Eagles

The Georgia Southern University women’s tennis team dropped its first home match of the weekend to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga 1-6.
After coming off a 6-1 win over Bethune-Cookman University, the Eagles looked to gain momentum against Chattanooga.
The doubles teams went 1-2 on the day, causing GSU to fall behind early. The only point of the day for GSU came from singles play.
Junior Paola Garrido and freshman Mary Phillips Smith gave the Eagles its only doubles win of the day after defeating their opponent in a thrilling 9-7 victory in the No.1 doubles spot.
After being behind early, GSU needed to shine in the singles portion of the match, but failed to do so after going 1-5.
The lone win of the day for the Eagles in singles play came from sophomore Jordana Klein after she recorded a 6-3, 3-0 win. Her opponent had to retire from the match, giving the win to Klein.
The Eagles fall to 7-11 on the season and 2-6 in SoCon play. GSU is set to play Samford University in its home finale on Sunday at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
