Statesboro Police Department is now offering “Tips on Surviving an Active Shooter,” a class designed to teach proper response in the unlikely event of an active shooter situation.

The first class will be held on March 14, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Statesboro Police Department. A limited number of seats are available. Anyone interested is encouraged to contact SPD to reserve a spot, according to the Statesboro news release.

The police department developed the active shooter presentation in response to recent school shootings, according to the news release.

Lieutenant Kaleb Moore, a veteran office with SPD who currently works with SPD’s Emergency Response Team, created this presentation and it has already been presented to staff at the Statesboro Mall. The presentation is approximately one hour long and is free to businesses, organizations and schools.

Information given during the presentation is based on recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Army.

Anyone desiring more information regarding the class, dates and times is encouraged to contact the Statesboro Police Department.
