The family of Shomari Billings, a Georgia Southern University student who drowned at an Atlanta pool party on Memorial Day weekend, has created a GoFundMe page for assistance with funeral costs.

Billings was the 19-year-old son of Shelley and Jarvis Billings and was an aspiring entrepreneur who had just completed his sophomore year at GS, studying business.

Billings’ aunt, Premlata Miller, began raising money to assist with funeral arrangements through the GoFundMe fundraiser that has already raised $5,847. The family has a goal of $10,000.

“We will truly miss this sweet and awesome young man,” Miller said. “If you can donate to assist my sister and her husband with the financial obligation of this unforeseen and horrific accident, it would be greatly appreciated.”

The money raised will assist the family with funeral expenses. The funeral will be held Friday, June 7 at noon in Atlanta at West End SDA Church.

“Everybody is all about having fun, what is intended to be fun, and sometimes you have got to be more aware of your surroundings and making sure that everybody is safe and looking out for everybody,” Miller said.

The link to the GoFundMe can be accessed here.

Miller can be reached via email at premlata@bellsouth.net with any questions or concerns.
