Tookie Brown invited to compete in Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

Georgia Southern men’s basketball guard Tookie Brown was invited to play in the 2019 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, announced Monday.

The P.I.T. is an annual tournament where 64 of the top senior collegiate men’s basketball players are selected to play in a 4-day tournament, performing in front of all NBA teams and coaches. The tournament consists of 12 games played from this Wednesday through Saturday.

“It is a big honor to be invited to the Portsmouth invitational,” Head Coach Mark Byington said. “It’s the first step in Tookie’s professional career and I know he will do great.”

Brown made milestones during his time of eligibility at GS, logging over 2,000 career points and 500 assists. The guard ended his career ranking at fourth on the Sun Belt career scoring list, ninth in assists and 19th in steals.

In his final season as an Eagle, Brown averaged 17.3 points per game as well as averaging 4.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Brown was also the first player in Sun Belt history to earn first-team All-Sun Belt honors all four years of his collegiate career. In his senior year alone, the guard was all named Sun Belt men’s basketball Player of the Year, Georgia College Men’s Player of the Year by the the Atlanta Tipoff Club and All-American Honorable Mention by the Associated Press.
