STATESBORO—Eagle football stars Wesley Kennedy III and CJ Wright were arrested on drugs and weapons charges Monday, according to jail records.

Kennedy, a star running back for the Eagles, is facing multiple drug charges and a charge in relation to the possession of a weapon while committing or trying to commit a felony.

Wright, a standout defensive lineman, is charged with multiple drug offenses.

Bond has not been set for either player as of Monday night.

“We are aware of the situation, and are working with law enforcement officials to gather all of the facts,” Georgia Southern Athletics said in a statement to The George-Anne.

Kennedy, a 2019 All-Sun Belt honorable mention, is the primary running back for the Eagles. Through eight games of his senior campaign, he has accumulated 610 scrimmage yards and seven total touchdowns.

Wright, a junior, had emerged as a star on the Eagle defensive line. In 2020, he has put up 32 total tackles including four for a loss. Just two days ago Wright put together his best game of the season when he accumulated 10 total tackles against Army.

Georgia Southern currently sits at 6-3 and is set to take on Georgia State in Atlanta this Saturday.
