Georgia Southern University’s 14th President Kyle Marrero addressed GS students and the GS community in a video tweeted out by the university on Friday.

“I have been overwhelmed by the calls, notes, emails and messages of congratulations after the news came out about my appointment as the 14th president of Georgia Southern University,” Marrero said in the video. “I want to thank you so much for the warm welcome and thank you for your unwavering support of Georgia Southern.”

Marrero has been serving as president at the University of West Georgia since 2013 and won the 2015 national award for Innovation and Excellence, in the category of Leadership Development and Diversity, from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

“I can’t wait to start and officially be part of the very special university family community,” Marrero said.

Marrero’s term as GS president officially begins April 1.

“Here we go together to help us soar to even greater heights,” Marrero said. “Go Eagles!”
