Georgia Southern announces new chair of Department of Civil Engineering and Construction

Georgia Southern University announced David W. Scott as the new chair of the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction.

Scott will begin his employment on July 1, 2019, according to a recent press release.

According to Georgia Tech’s website, Scott is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a doctorate’s degree in civil engineering. After graduating from Georgia Tech, Scott worked as a research engineer at the U.S. Army Engineer Research And Development Center until August of 2000, when he left to work as an assistant professor in civil engineering at Georgia Tech Savannah.

Scott has been awarded for various honors throughout his professional career, including the Dow Chemical Award for Excellence in Composites Research, a Commendation for Technical Excellence from the U.S. Army and a Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, according to the Georgia Tech website.

Scott also authored several papers in a variety of technical journals and has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally.
