Pirates, it’s almost that time of year again as the season of roses, heart-shaped chocolate boxes and romance hurdles stealthily along the calendar, ready to remind us all that we still have not gotten that special someone something for Valentine’s Day. So why not bring in the season of love with a film from the country of love?
Feb. 4 will be the start of Armstrong’s eighth annual Francophone Film Festival at the Ogeechee Theater in the Student Union. The event will run through Feb. 6, featuring five francophone films with English subtitles, beginning each day at 6 p.m. The event is almost tailor made for college students, as it is free and open to the public.
The festival will be hosted by the French Club, who will also be selling popcorn before screenings. Dorothée Mertz-Weigel, director of International Education and an associate professor of French, has spearheaded the festival’s organization since it debuted in 2009.
“The idea behind the Francophone Film Festival goes along the mission of the French Club, which is to expose our Armstrong and Savannah communities to the French language, and the different cultures from around the Francophone world,” Mertz-Weigel says.
The film screenings will be shown as follows:
