A 2017 Georgia Southern University alumnus was named GS assistant men’s golf coach Tuesday.

According to a recent press release, Cody O’Toole earned status on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica and the Asian Development Tour after graduating from GS with a degree in finance.

O’Toole then served as a volunteer assistant for the GS men’s golf team in the fall. During his time as a volunteer coach, the team recorded seven rounds that rank in the top 15 in school history.

O’Toole lettered two seasons for the Eagles when he was a student from 2015 to 2017 and posted a 74.30 scoring average, according to the press release.

Carter Collins, the GS men’s golf coach, said he and the team are thankful to have O’Toole as their new assistant coach.

“When Cody began helping us out, we saw an immediate positive impact, and we are thankful that he came back to Statesboro to work with this program,” Collins said in a press release. “Cody brings with him extensive leadership qualities and knowledge of the game that will continue to be a positive asset for the team.”

The GS men’s golf team’s season resumes Feb. 3 for the GS Individual Collegiate at the GS course.
