Statesboro’s Downtown Tours

Statesboros Downtown Tours

Fernanda Camacho Hauser, Correspondent

In order to bring in more commerce for local businesses Statesboro Downtown is organizing and hosting free events open to the public but limited to a certain number of participants to better enable social distancing.

The Downtown Tours follow a theme each time to highlight a certain amenity that can be found in downtown Statesboro through their walking tours. These tours work to not just help you find your new favorite shop or study spot, but also give participants a historical insight to the area.

This month’s theme is “Warm in the Winter” which gives the walking tour participants a chance to not just sample the coffee from the downtown coffee shops but also learn about the local coffee shops found downtown.

While the first tour took place last weekend there is another session taking place on Saturday February 27 at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. The tours are free but there is a group size limit and requires pre-registration.

We spoke with Elena McLedon, the office manager of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority, who let us know about a few of the gems that can be found in town. This includes an upcoming production of “Newsies”, great spots for graduation pictures, a pottery studio, and food ranging from cheesecake to Indian food.

Next month’s Downtown tour will take place March 26 and 27 is a “Downtown Doggy Tour” where pets on a leash are allowed and ends at the local dog park.
