A guide to a successful weekend in Montgomery

In their final game of the 2018 season the Eagles will be heading to Montgomery, Alabama to take part in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl this Saturday, Dec. 15.

There’s much to do in Montgomery if you’re planning on making the trip to support the Eagles and here’s the ultimate Camellia Bowl travel guide perfect for any GS fan.

Restaurants

Start your gameday with the perfect breakfast spot found at the Vintage Café, serving all types of coffee beverages, smoothies, baked goods and breakfast sandwiches to prepare yourself for a day of Eagle tailgating and game day.

Make sure to also hit Baumhower’s Victory Grille which serves classic bar foods such as wings, fried shrimp and burgers. If you’re a spicy food fanatic make sure to check out their hot lips specials served with different spices and heats.

For the seafood lovers Wintzell’s Oyster House is an excellent option as they serve a variety of shellfish from oysters to shrimp to catfish.

Bars and Nightlife

Whether the Eagles pull out the win or not, there’s still plenty to celebrate following the game.

If you’re the type to dance while celebrating make sure to find Reflections, a dance club and bar which includes a dance floor, a college and martini bar, live music, and outdoor seating for when you overheat after too much dancing.

On the other hand, if you’re the more of the chill, hangout with friends in a booth to celebrate Leroy Lounge is the place for you. The lounge has a drink menu consisting of an array of cocktails and a long list of draft and bottled beer.

Most bars in Montgomery are based downtown and are for ages 18+.

Eagle Events

There are more opportunities to celebration the bowl game than go to the game itself.

There will be a Georgia Southern team pep rally is at 4:30 p.m. at the Union Station Train Shed Friday, followed by the Montgomery Christmas Parade at 6:15 p.m. where both teams will be in the parade itself.

After the parade the Eagle fans are given an opportunity to mingle with Eagle nation at Aviator Bar in an unofficial meetup around 8 p.m.

Following on Saturday there will be good old-fashioned True-Blue Tailgate officially starting at 12:30, but there’s no doubt people will begin to tailgate prior to noon if you’re an eager beaver.

Another pep rally will be held for the Eagles on gameday at 2 p.m. at Paterson Field followed by the Eagle Walk at 2:20 p.m. on Hall Street.

The gates for the game will open at 2:30 p.m. and kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Central time.
