GS to host Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event

The international sexual assault awareness and gender relations program Walk A Mile in Her Shoes returns to Georgia Southern for another year Tuesday.

Beginning in 2001, the program encourages men around the world to walk a literal mile in high heels with the goal to confront gender stereotypes and address major issues with gender violence and sexual assault.

Since 2013, GS has also joined this march, encouraging the male students and faculty, as well as members of the local community, to don their heels and take the mile-long walk as well.

Though participants will have to pay to take part in the event, all proceeds will go to charity; the revenue from the march will be donated to the Teal House, an organization home to Statesboro that offers shelter and aid to victims of sexual assault.

The GS march for Walk A Mile in Her Shoes will take place on April 6 at Sweetheart Circle from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Those interested in registering must reserve a 30 minute interval to walk and epay $20, or $10 if they are a student. CDC guidelines will be followed.
